Favorite cat toys are as individual as the cats themselves. But the best are usually small enough to swat across the floor and carry around or big enough to kick and hug. Toys that make a noise are popular here — we have lots of chirping “birds” and squeaking toy mice. My cats love electronic action toys, too. And their favorite interactive wand toys have bouncy piano wire, not limp, droopy string. They demand catnip toys with high-octane organic catnip, not the cheap pet supply store stuff.
When choosing toys for your cats, think about their age, size and activity level. Big cats need big toys. And remember, even elderly cats are hunters at heart and love to chase toys on the end of a wand and string. They do best with toys that are fairly big and are easy to see and catch. Another tip: Make sure you have enough toys so the cats don’t have to fight over their favorites. If you have several cats and they love Hot Cats, you’ll need several Hot Cats!
These are my cats’ top ten favorite toys.
Yeowww! Catnip Banana
The Yeowww! Catnip bright yellow banana is one of my cats’ favorites, and we have lots for lots of cats. Made in the USA of durable cotton twill, it’s seven inches long and completely stuffed with high octane organic catnip. The curve makes it fun to kick and hug.
Yeowww! Catnip Pollock Fish
This 11″ long fish is stuffed to the gills with aromatic organic catnip. It, too, is made in the USA of durable cotton twill. This is Boccelli’s favorite toy.
Yeowww! Catnip Produce Pack
Something sweet and something sour to make you the apple of your cat’s eyes. The apple and lemon are both stuffed with potent organic catnip. And at 6″ in diameter, they’re just the right size for hugging.
This is the Turbo Scratcher, but with a sparkly ball to swat around the turbo track. Belle could spend hours chasing the ball as it goes round and round. This is a large toy designed for adult cats. The scratching pad is big enough for the cats to sit on, nap on, and get a good stretch while scratching. Replacement balls and scratching pads are available on Amazon.
Chirping Bird In A Cage
My cats love swatting this big ball across the floor, making the “bird” chirp nonstop. Thankfully, the bird stops chirping when the ball stops moving. The battery-operated bird will sing for up to 8000 activations.
This little guy combines two of my cats’ favorite things: catnip and mice. It sounds like a mouse when they bat it around, and it’s about the same size as a mouse, too.
My cats think this is great fun, and they sometimes form a tag team to try to catch the mouse. The mouse tail moves in random, unpredictable directions to keep the cats guessing. This electronic toy has three speeds and goes off automatically, so you don’t have to remember to hit the on/off switch when the cats are tired of hunting.
Yeowww! Catnip Tub
Sometimes my cats like their ‘nip straight up. We have catnip parties, and everyone gets his or her own mound of catnip to roll in, sleep on or eat. Yeowww! Catnip is their favorite because it’s so potent. And it’s so aromatic, I love the smell, too. It’s certified organic catnip grown in the US. Store the tub in the refrigerator to keep the catnip fresh.
Feathers that soar like a bird are attached to a long cord and 30″ unbreakable plastic wand. You can buy lots of different attachments for this toy so it’s always interesting and fun.
Tip: Some cats like to catch “birds” flying through the air and others like to chase little creatures skipping along the floor. Try playing both ways to see which hunting style your cat prefers.
Molly And Friends Cat Tree
A tall, stable cat tree is just about the best cat gift of all. This one from Molly and Friends is 54 inches tall on a 24-inch x 24-inch base. The perches are large enough for an adult cat to stretch out on for a nap. This cat tree is handmade in the US and ships fully assembled.
